ETA Program Support

The English Teaching Assistant Program aims to foster interest in learing English in Taiwanese students and provide an opportunity for cultural exchange to both Fulbright English Teaching Assistants (ETAs) and the host communities. The program brings American college graduates to underserved and mostly rual elementary schools for a 11-month period. During the period, Fulbright Taiwan has been supported ETAs in a variety ways for themto be well prepared playing dual roles as an English Teacher and an American Cultural ambassador.

ETAs are placed in Taipei, Yilan, Taichung, Taitung, Kaoushiung, and Kinmen. In each site, there is a local coordinator to offer admin support. The main tasks are as below:

1. Personal Support: hosing, transportation, health issues etc.

2. Communication: schools, administrators, and teachers.

3. Documentation.

In each site, there are local professors and Fulbright TEFL advisors to offer professional support. The main tasks are as below:

1. Feedbacks on bi-weekly reports.

2. Conducting workshops.

3. Class observations.

4. Research Projects.
