In Taiwanese, if you want to ask someone how they are, you actually need to ask them whether or not they’ve eaten. Yes, you read that right. “Jiă bà buāi,” the equivalent of “how are you?” (which can sometimes also be used as a “hello”) literally means “Have you eaten?”
2015-2016 Kaohsiung ETA Karina Hwang has been participating in community service at 佛光山大慈育幼院 every Tuesday evenings. She really enjoys reading books with those kids who study at one of her schools. 興田國小.
2015-2016 Kaohsiung ETA Grace Pyo hosted an English spelling bee at both of her schools (十全國小&七賢國小).
