What are Taichung ETAs doing in August?

As the opening of the new ETA grant year, August is usually the most enriched month, not only for the newcomers but also for the extension ETAs.

This August, besides the well-arranged online/physical workshops from the TEFL and bilingual advisors, we had many interesting activities in Taichung with full of local styles.

Scavenger hunt in the traditional morning market and make Taiwanese style cuisines

ETAs got the missions that they are going to make their own Taiwanese style lunch, and before that, they had to find the ingredients in the Xitun morning market and purchase with the recycled bags and containers!

We made luffa miàn xiàn with wolfberries, fried tofu with peppers, fried vegetables with mushrooms, and the most exciting cuisine is the seasoning fruit shake, mixed with fresh dragon fruits and mangoes!

Painting porcelain and planting rice

ETAs also joined a whole day cultural event at the outskirt of Taichung, Dajia, and Waipu district.

Dajia High School is famous for the blue-and-white porcelain course. With the assistant of teachers and high school students, ETAs all put their design on the bowl wonderfully!

Can you imagine what does it feel when walking in the muddy rice paddy? ETAs had a memorable agricultural experience at Happy valley, planted the rice seedlings physically, and had a ride on the working rice Transplanter in a modern way. The rice we grew will become a part of the golden wave at Happy valley in this November.

Community service at an animal rescue shelter

The founder Ms. Chang was an English teacher; many years ago, she and an American friend established Gogoshan (which means dogs’ mountain) in Wufeng District, Taichung.

Gogoshan rescued dogs and cats, and also put much effort into searching warm homes for the animals.

In Gogoshan, there is never a lack of welcome and undifferentiated love. Dogs welcomed ETAs friendly and very appreciated for the help of washing their bowls, distributing food, cleaning up their place, and playing with them.
