What to do in Yunlin
Gym / Swim / University Sports / Tai Chi / Yoga
There are many gyms and swimming pools in both Huwei and Douliu where you can go work out, stretch, and enjoy some recreation time. Most pools offer spas, steam showers, and other relaxing amenities, and the community centers and schools offer Tai Chi And yoga classes. You also can go to the nearby universities to join community members of all ages in a game of basketball or volleyball.
Biking / Hiking
Once you leave the inner city of either Huwei or Douliu, you quickly find yourself in the sprawling farmlands of Yunlin. You can enjoy biking to nearby towns and tourist attractions or just simply appreciating the fresh air. If you are looking for more of a challenge, you can bicycle up the mountains and into Gukeng Township. There you can find beautiful hiking trails and easy access to the rest of the Ali Mountain range. The trails will take you on abandoned train tracks or through tea farms, and you will likely come across some monkeys too!

Movie Theaters, Night Markets, KTV
While you are here, you will certainly be singing karaoke at your local KTV. As one of the more popular evening pastimes in Taiwan, there are many KTV venues that all offer private rooms for you and our friends to enjoy a variety of songs including those in Chinese, Korean, and English.
Night markets are also a popular place to spend an evening eating delicious snacks and playing carnival-style games.
Both Douliu and Huwei also have movie theaters so you don’t have to miss out on any premieres. Most movies are dubbed or subtitled in English. (Because of COVID-19, the movie theaters has been temporarily close.)
Douliu also boasts a baseball stadium and the only bowling alley in Yunlin.

Calligraphy
Finding a new hobby is a great way to better experience and know Taiwan and its community. One hobby that a few ETAs started last year was Chinese Calligraphy. Some schools offer classes while others found tutors who offered classes in their homes.
