Remote Service: English Camp in Hualien

With the mission of inspiring English learning, FSE recently brought young English Teaching Assistants (ETA) to a remote area in Hualien. The one-day camp for students was designed around fun stories, games, and creative activities related to American culture with the hope of motivating participants them to learn English. The camp promoted cultural exchange and encouraged students to become young ambassadors of compassion and value. Through interaction with the ETAs, this project increased knowledge and enhanced cross-cultural exchange. In addition, local English teachers and students benefited from international education.

美國「學術交流基金會（The Foundation for Scholarly Exchange, Fulbright Taiwan）」執行長李沃奇博士Dr. Vocke與董事會希望「傅爾布萊特獎學金美籍協同英語教學助理計畫 (Fulbright ETA Program)」對台灣英語教育的貢獻，能有機會與花蓮縣合作嘉惠更多的台灣弱勢或偏鄉學童英語學習機會

為能讓更多優秀的美籍受獎人能深入台灣文化，所有來台美籍學人(簡稱ETA)必須參與社區服務類活動。開啟這樣一個平台讓ETA們接觸更多缺乏教育資源之孩童，傳遞愛護地球、珍愛生命的英語概念教育。

透由「用愛學英語」將優秀美籍協同英語教學助理ETA帶入偏鄉弱勢區域，於周末或寒暑假進行英語說教學，提昇學生對英語學習之動機，增加孩童與美籍學人直接互動英語的機會。ETA帶動之「用愛學英語」促進跨文化交流，並培育出有愛心、有品格的小小親善大使。 運用ETA之優秀背景與文化，開創本校師生國際教育與多元文化之學習視野，並創造臺美彼此雙向互動之機會。
