Restart the Fulbright Taiwan ELTP U.S. Training
for Local English Teachers and Professors!
Fulbright Taiwan had suspended the Local English Teacher (LET) overseas training program due to the COVID pandemic for two years. However, this year, the LETs overseas training project has been restarted.
There were 40 LETs and 18 professors who participated in the Fulbright Taiwan ELTP programs attending the intensive two-week training project at UC Davis, UC Santa Cruz, and UC San Diego.
During the training period, LETs learned the latest pedagogies for effective classroom engagement in bilingual classrooms, as Taiwan aims to reach the Bilingual policy goal by 2030. As part of their TEFL training, LETs also visited local elementary schools to observe and learn how they motivate students and support non-native English speakers. With the skills learned at UC Davis and UC Santa Cruz, LETs are going to build a high-quality English environment in classrooms and share great ideas with other LETs.
The 18 professors came from the National Taipei University of Technology and National Central University, which participated in the Fulbright Taiwan (FSE) EMI program. It is through the training at UC San Diego that professors gain more expertise and strategies for teaching academic subjects in English.
Hopefully, teachers will be able to acquire new methods of teaching and students will be benefited as well.
