The Penghu Great Bridge
The bridge connects Baisha Island and Xiyu, and is one of the longest trans-ocean bridges in East Asia.
Kueibishan Recreation Area
The area dubbed “Moses Parts the Sea by visitors.The pathway connects the shore of Kueibishan in Husi’s Beiliao to an unpopulated island, Chihyu, about 300m away. When the tide is falling, the pathway will be shown up.
Penghu Tianhou Temple
The temple at Magong was built in 1604. It is Taiwan's oldest and finest temple. The temple survived for an age of 400 years and has become the worshipping center of Penghu residents. The architecture is the work of famous Tangshan artists. Every part of the temple is made with utmost refined style. Inside the temple are some prized Ching period arts. Its inside out is the extreme artistic presentation of styling and sculpture. There is also a tablet in memory of Yojong Sheng's success in persuading Dutch invaders to retreat, which is also the earliest tablet found in Taiwan.
Daguoye Columnar Basalt
During the Japanese occupation, a wharf was planned to be built at the seaside of Daguoye to improve marine communications between Magong Island and Xiyu. While the workers were digging earth and stones away, they found the impressive columnar basalt which had been buried and had been in sound sleep for thousands of years. We can say that it is the most accessible columnar basalt in Magong Island.
Erkan Historical House
Old traditional-style houses are among the most engrossing of Penghu's many cultural attractions. Besides the scholar's residence in the Xingren neighborhood of Magong and the old Jang Bai-wan house in Waganng Township on Baisha Island, there is a well-preserved century-old residential complex in Erkan Village on Xiyu Island.
The Erkan residence, owned by the Chen clan, is a large family home with many wings. It features relief carvings, windows, doors, and eaves in the classic southern Fujian style. The exquisite craftsmanship evidenced by its rustic yet refined simplicity highlights the skills of its builders.
Zhongyang Old Street 中央老街
The Zhongyang Street of Penghu was called "the high street" or "downtown roads" in the old days. As the earliest commercial district of Penghu, Zhongyang Street is featured by a dozen narrow alleys and lanes built in the Qing and Ming Dynasties, indicating the district was quite busy back then.
Shanshui Beach 山水沙灘
This is a great beach (25 min by scooter from the city).
Lintou Park 林投公園
The expanse of casuarinas and lintou trees here forms a forested landscape that is an extremely rare sight in the Penghu Islands. Together with the fine white-sand beach, this makes Lintou Park one of the most popular tourist destinations on Penghu.
In addition to its enchanting natural landscape, Lintou Park also features recreational facilities including a barbecue area, an aviary, and flower gardens. A military cemetery is situated at the western edge of the park.
Penghu Living Museum 生活博物館
Inaugurated in 2021, Penghu Living Museum is the first city museum in Taiwan. The museum is home to a bountiful collection of specimens, objects and documents, and it uses ecological landscaping, models, and multimedia to introduce Penghu to visitors. The displayed content is true to life and highly enjoyable.
Guanyin Pavilion (Guanyinting) 觀音亭
Guanyin Pavilion is an old temple situated on the shore of Penghu Bay and dedicated to Guanyin, the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy. Built first in 1696, the temple was destroyed during a war with France in 1884 and rebuilt in 1891.
Near Guanyin Pavilion is a large building of interesting European-style architecture, but built with local coral and basalt rock, which houses the Penghu Youth Activity Center. In the summer the nearby beaches are crowded with swimmers, sunbathers, and wind-surfers, and are also a fine place for watching the spectacular sunset over Shiyu Island.
