Teaching ─ Chiayi
Teaching in Chiayi is very diverse. In addition to English co-teaching, you may discuss with the schools and contribute your specialty to do the CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) teaching. For example, an ETA plays the violin with her school’s Chinese orchestra as a performance. Besides, we also have ETAs co-teach with PE, art, or home economics courses, etc.
Furthermore, we cooperate with an ecological experimental education school, an astronomical AI experimental education school, and you will also get the chance to learn Mandarin, Taiwanese Tâi-gí, and Tsou indigenous language with the students! For those who are interested in the above unique subjects, you may explore a lot at the schools in Chiayi.
The ETA program cooperates with 12 schools out of 144 schools located in 18 townships in Chiayi County. ETAs are placed in 4 elementary schools, 6 middle schools, and 2 junior elementary schools. Some elementary schools are arranged as pair schools so some ETAs will teach at 2 schools. Most schools are small-sized, with 10-15 classes on average, but there are also smaller (3-10) and larger (20 - 30) schools. Most ETAs co-teach in their classes with a Local English Teacher (LET) by "one teaching, one drifting", "team teaching", or "parallel teaching". There are 5-30ish students per class, mostly with lower English proficiency levels, and being shy to speak at the very start, which makes the ETAs more valuable and gives the ETAs a deep sense of accomplishment.
ETF Jocelyn plays the violin with the school’s Chinese orchestra for the 66th anniversary of Jhuci Senior High School.
