VISA to Taiwan

Before looking into the questions and answers, let’s review the timeline first.

The initial step in May involves receiving your grant packet and returning the signed grant authorization to confirm your commitment.

Following your acceptance, the EMI & International Project Team will distribute the VISA Application Instructions, providing detailed guidance.

Next, you will begin the process of applying for your VISA and arranging your flight. You will receive an email with instructions on how to arrange your flight tickets.

  • According to the grant period, all grantees must arrive in Taiwan on August 1st. J-VISAs are required for entry into Taiwan. If any unforeseen circumstances cause a delay in your arrival, you must send an official request email with supporting documentation to the Admin email address. As your grant is funded by the Ministry of Education and local governments, we are obligated to report your situation to them and determine whether to approve your late arrival. Additionally, please note that your participation in online school visits and selecting your school preferences is crucial for determining your school placement for the grant year. Furthermore, missing the August orientation will result in a stipend reduction at a daily rate.

  • We assume "summer" refers to July. It's difficult to provide a definitive answer at this time as the processing time for visas varies among different TECO offices. Typically, grantees can submit their visa application documents to the TECO office in early to mid-June. The processing time usually takes 4 to 6 weeks. Therefore, if you receive your visa (and passport) on time, it should be feasible for you to travel in July.

  • The ARC application must be completed within 15 days of your arrival in Taiwan. If you arrive in Taiwan before July 18th, you must obtain your ARC application form from your coordinators and submit it to the Immigration Office on your own. If you decide to come to Taiwan earlier than your grant period, you have to make sure you fulfill the following conditions:

◆ J-VISA: Make sure you have received the J-VISA to enter Taiwan.

◆ Additional Expense: It will be your responsibility to cover the extra week's expenses, which include domestic transportation in Taiwan, accommodation, etc.

    ◆ ARC Application

  • If you plan to visit China, we suggest you apply for a VISA while in the United States.

  • There’s no VISA or financial support for spouses.
