LET Professional Development
Biweekly Workshops
Biweekly workshops are designed by the advising educational consulting team. These workshops aim to train Local English Teachers [LETs] in professional English teaching skills. Previous topics explored include Project-Based Learning, Children's Literature and Board Games, Co-Teaching Troubleshooting and Feedback, Tools for Assessing Listening and Speaking, and Connecting Reading and Writing Using Picture Books.
Class Observation
Each ETA/ETF will have a class observation each semester. During the class observation, an advisor will observe and assess the effectiveness of the co-teaching between ETAs/ETFs and LETs. The advisor will then provide feedback and comments to promote a better team teaching experience between ETAs/ETFs and LETs.
Midyear Conference
At the midyear conference, local teachers and ETAs from each site gather to share their teaching experiences and showcase special projects they are working on. The conference also provides an opportunity for local teachers and ETAs across Taiwan to connect, share, and learn from one another.
Overseas Training
Fulbright Taiwan had suspended the Local English Teacher [LET] overseas training program due to the COVID pandemic for two years. However, the LETs overseas training project has been restarted in January 2023.
During the training period, LETs learned the latest pedagogies for effective classroom engagement in bilingual classrooms, as Taiwan aims to reach the Bilingual policy goal by 2030. As part of their TEFL training, LETs also visited local elementary schools to observe and learn how they motivate students and support non-native English speakers. With the skills learned at UC Davis and UC Santa Cruz, LETs are going to build a high-quality English environment in classrooms and share great ideas with other LETs.
