Tainan Overview
Location
Tainan, a city on Taiwan’s southwest coast, was the island’s capital from 1683 to 1887 under the Qing dynasty. Today it’s known for its centuries-old fortresses and temples. One of its most famous sites is Chihkan Tower, an 18th-century Chinese complex with gardens, intricately carved towers, and a temple erected on the foundations of Fort Provintia, a Dutch outpost dating to the mid-1600s. Tainan is a city renowned for its historic and cultural attractions, traditional delicacies, and abundant sunshine. It's also a new member of the ETA/ETF program. There's even more to discover!
Weather
Tainan has moderate weather along with little rain and ample sunshine, apart from the monsoon and typhoon seasons which span from May to December. And when it rains, it pours, so pay attention to weather forecasts.
Over the course of the year, the temperature varies from 58°F to 95°F and is rarely below 51°F or above 93°F.

Volunteering
There are many volunteering opportunities in Tainan City. However, some require training before joining and language abilities. ETAs can find some community service besides their school time and get involved with local communities. Tainan grantees have participated in beach cleaning, story telling in libraries, dog walking at animal shelters, and more!
